A Lafayette man is accused of firing shots around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning at a 19-year-old man who was getting a haircut in his front yard.

Shortly after the shooting happened, police were able to track down and arrest Kenyatta Edmond (35) who witnesses say walked down Hilda Street and fired shots at a 19-year-old getting his hair cut.

According to documents obtained by KLFY, Kenyatta Edmond’s criminal history dates back almost twenty years which show that he has been convicted on multiple drug and firearm possession charges. He’s now accused of firing five shots at 19-year-old Ronna Taylor, Jr. on Hilda street who was getting his haircut in front of his home.

“Fortunately no one was hit from any of the rounds. police were able to later arrest Kenyatta Edmond where he will be booked into the Lafayette Parish correctional center for attempted second degree murder.” says CPL Paul Mouton.

Several witnesses say after firing the shots at Taylor, Edmond turned to them and pointed the gun in their direction, and then took off running. One of Taylor’s family members chased Edmond down the street while he dialed 9-1-1.

“We believe that the disturbance stemmed from something that has happened in the past an ongoing feud between the two men so we are still speaking with witnesses at this time to try and get a definitive answer on that.” says CPL Mouton.

The shooting on Hilda wasn’t the first time an incident like this has happened which have residents concerned saying there have been several fatal shootings in the past three years. One of those shootings in march 2013 resulted in the death of 16-year-old Raynell Willliams, Edmond’s step-son.

“It was dealing with something in 2013 with his step son that got killed in that area so that’s why he came over here to shoot because it was dealing with his step son. it was retaliation .” says one witness.

According to the witness, Edmond had driven down Hilda Street several times, but she says none of the neighbors thought anything of it at the time. “Hes been passing since yesterday, so my understanding is that that’s premeditated. You’ve been passing since yesterday trying to see what was going on with the little guy. So you come back today to shoot, that’s real crazy.”
