DESTREHAN, La. (AP) – A suspect in St. Charles Parish’s first homicide of the year has turned himself in.

Nola.com/The Times-Picayune (http://bit.ly/1bd4FYY ) reports 22-year-old Sidney K. Smith has been charged with second-degree murder. St. Charles Parish deputies say Smith was wanted in the death of 28-year-old Warren Sanders Saturday night in Destrehan. He turned himself in on Sunday.

Witnesses say they saw Smith confront Sanders about Smith’s girlfriend. Smith then brandished a handgun and fired multiple times at Sanders.

It is unclear if Smith has a lawyer.
