The many foods of Festival International

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — After walking around and soaking in everything Festival International has to offer, it’s nice to stop by one of the many food vendors and grab a bite to eat. Bon Creole’s crawfish spinach boat is always a crowd favorite.

From po’boys to barbecue, if you’ve got a craving, chances are you’ll satisfy it at Festival International. The options are endless, but the crawfish bread bowl is a popular choice and one you’ll only find at Festival International.

Owner Julie Montegut says they sell several thousand every year. “It’s not available at the restaurant, its not on the menu. It’s a novelty item. I think that adds to the reason why we sell so many. It gives us a wonderful feeling when people say I came just for this.”

Bon Creole Seafood out of New Iberia has been attending Festival International for about 12 years. Montegut says it takes three trailers full of supplies to set up shop and a lot of work but they love festival season.

“We do festivals on weekends, of course, this one (Festival International) is one of our favorites. All of our employees look forward to coming out, in fact, it’s always an issue of who gets to come and who has to stay.”

While Bon Creole is a veteran of Festival International, Blanchard’s Barbecue food truck of Lafayette is new to the scene. This is their second year.

“It’s awesome you get to see people enjoy your food and people sharing that food with other people. It’s awesome to be able to bring joy through food,” says Owner Matt Blanchard. He adds that the exposure at Festival International has been great for the new business. “The facebook likes have been going up. It’s some of the best-smoked meat in lafayette. Gotta come find us.”

Food vendors close around 11 p.m. each evening.
