PORT BARRE, La. (KLFY) – Police are on the scene of a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a train.

The incident happened just before 9:30 a.m. near Dixie Storage along US 190 in Port Barre.

“The truck driver was crossing over the railroad tracks and misjudged the distance and speed of the approaching train. The driver made a decision to try to beat the train which resulted in a crash. He is very fortunate he was not killed or injured,” Police Chief Deon Boudreaux said in a news release.

The trailer of the semi-truck, which was empty at the time, was snapped in half by the train.

There was no other damage to the truck or train. No injuries have been reported.

LA 741 at US 190 is now open.
