At one point during this season, Louisiana Head Baseball Coach Tony Robichaux told the media, Trosclair makes this team go. Well, today in the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship, Junior Stefan Trosclair got his “go” on. Trosclair drove in all five Cajun runs, in UL’s 5-1 win over #1 seed South Alabama. Robichaux says, “we are the two best teams in the conference this year, and it played out like that.” The win gives UL a 2nd consecutive Sun Belt Tournament Title, and assures the team will play in the NCAA Baseball Regionals starting next week.
Coach Robichaux says, “You’ve got to try and answer them with pitching and defense, and we were able to do that.” Freshman pitcher Gunner Leger pitched on 3 days rest, and did a great job of keeping the game close. It was 1-1 all the way into the 12th inning when Trosclair went to work. He launched a grand slam over the right-field wall, his 16th homer of the season, and Greg Milhorn retired the Jaguars in order in the bottom half to give the Cajuns the tournament championship.
The SBC Tournament Title is just the 3rd in school history, 1998, 2014, and 2015.
The Cajuns will find out where they are headed on Monday morning during the NCAA Selection Show on ESPNU at 11AM. No public watch party at the Tigue due to weather concerns. Stay tuned to News 10 Sports for all the latest regarding the Cajuns postseason journey.
