KROTZ SPRINGS, La. (KLFY) – Two convenience store employees have been arrested for felony theft after allegedly stealing lottery tickets from their employer.
Video surveillance footage showed the two suspects, Stephanie Bowman, 39, and Aireal Bowman, 24, both of Krotz Springs, “removing the lottery tickets from the (store’s) case and scratching off the barcode,” according to sheriff’s spokesperson Major Eddie Thibodeaux.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release that Stephanie Bowman, “admitted to stealing an excessive amount of tickets ranging from 12 to 15 per day for at least 1 month.”
She also believes the value is somewhere between $1,600 to $1,700, according to Guidroz.
Investigators explained after allegedly stealing the lottery tickets, the suspects would then, “use the Louisiana Lottery ticket scanner to verify that the ticket had a winning amount. After verifying the tickets had a cash value the two employees would remove the cash from the cash register,” Thibodeaux said.
Surveillance footage never showed the two suspects pay for any of the stolen tickets, according to investigators.
Both women were arrested on April 20 and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on charges of felony theft.
Guidroz said detectives notified the Louisiana Lottery Commission and both suspects are expected to face additional charges.
