Two Lafayette Diocese seminarians were ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood by the Most Rev. Michael Jarrell, Bishop of Lafayette at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. Bishop Jarrell conferred the Sacrament of Holy Orders on the Rev. Travis Wayne Abadie and Rev. Charles William Massie, IV. The rite of ordination included the laying on of hands by the bishop, a tradition that began with the original Twelve Apostles. The Sacrament of Holy Orders bestows supernatural graces whereby they are able to act in persona Christi (in the person of Christ) when they offer the sacrifice of the Mass, hear confessions and anoint the sick. The ordination was a culmination of many years of vigorous study of theology and philosophy. Rev. Abadie, son of Jules Abadie and Sharon Morris Hubacher, studied philosophy at St. Joseph Seminary in Covington. He also attended Assumption Seminary in San Antonio, Texas and finished his theology studies at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. Abadie was ordained a transitional deacon May 25, 2013 and celebrates his first Mass of Thanksgiving Sunday, June 7, at 4:15pm in St. Elizabeth Seton Church with Rev. Harold Trahan as homilist. Beginning July 1st, he will serve as associate pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Eunice.  Rev. Billy Massie, son of Charles Massie, III and Betty Crusta Dore, attended Sacred Heart School of Theology and Seminary in Hales Corners, Wisconsin until graduation in May 2015. Massie was ordained a transitional deacon June 14, 2014 and his first Mass of Thanksgiving will be Sunday, June 7, at 11 AM at St. John Cathedral in Lafayette. Monsignor Keith Derouen was the homilist. His first assignment will be as associate pastor of St. Michael the Archangel in Crowley.
