Shortly after 8:00 pm on January 9, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on US 167 north of Turkey Creek in Evangeline Parish. The crash took the life of 28 year old Lacey Fontenot of Pineville, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Lacey Fontenot was traveling northbound on US 167 in a 2007 BMW 525. At the same time, 29 year old Nickolas Fontenot of Ville Platte, LA was traveling southbound on US 167 in a 2009 Honda CRV.

For unknown reasons, Lacey Fontenot’s vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane of US 167 and struck Nickolas Fontenot’s vehicle head-on.

Lacey Fontenot was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office.

Nickolas Fontenot was also unrestrained and received serious injuries. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
