The Lafayette Consolidated Government says it’s a work in progress to turn the Less Pay Motel on University near the intersection of Cameron and University into a police substation. LCG Councilman Brandon Shelvin confirms a meeting has been scheduled for all those involved. “There were some things that kind of came up. I think during the appraisal process that really didn’t sit to well with us here in city government.  We’re going to have a meeting to basically address those particular issues,” says Councilman Shelvin.

LCG Public Works Director Kevin Blanchard says the council voted and agreed to declare the property a public necessity. Blanchard adds the declaration adds more to the process. “You jump through all those hopes and go through all those steps because otherwise it’s not a fair appraisal and it’s not something that will standup if it’s ever challenged. So we’re just doing our due diligence. We appreciate everybody’s patience,” says Blanchard.

Blanchard says Four Corners remains to be a key area for a police substation; from the major intersections to the neighborhoods that surround the motel. “It’s not a problem that was never going to be solved over night because it didn’t happen overnight; but we’re getting there,” notes Blanchard. “There are a lot of moving parts right now. The plan moving forward has not change and it has never wavered. We are still going to acquire the Less Pay Motel property,” adds Shelvin.
