WASHINGTON, La. (KLFY) – Residents in the St. Landry Parish town of Washington are getting ready to head to the polls on Saturday.

A major item on the ballot is an effort to remove the police chief from office.

“Corruption, we have no tolerance for,” said Washington resident, Dorothy Worthy.

Ronelle Broussard has served as Washington Police Chief since 2011.

The Worthy family has lived in the town of Washington for many years, and says over the years Broussard’s work ethic has always been questionable.

“The chief of police came here unqualified, totally not domiciled,” said Worthy.

Back in February 2015, Broussard was hurt on the job and has been on medical leave ever since, which has the community questioning the seriousness of his injuries.

“The people in the town of Washington want to have someone that’s going to come in here and get the job done,” said William Worthy.

Since Broussard’s time in office, two petitions have been started to oust him from his position. However, the first petition failed back in 2012.

“This man tore up this town and did not even want to care about this little historic town of Washington,” said William. “We need him gone.”

“The majority of the people in town want the same thing that the committee that’s working on this want. We want our town back,” said Dorothy.

The Worthy family explains that this election has been a long time coming and just ask that the community get out and vote.

“Please, please, I’m asking you all very nicely to go out Saturday and get this man out of office,” said William.

Voting for the recall election is scheduled for Saturday at town hall.
