LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Two teenagers have been charged and a parent was arrested after a video of a fight at a local high school was posted online.
During the fight, it appears one of the young men violently hit his head on a concrete bench.
Because the boy showed signs of concussion, paramedics were called to the scene. We’re told the boy is fine. He was checked out by doctors is back at home, Scott Police Chad Leger said.
But when you first see the video, one might think the worst.
The two boys in the video are students at Acadiana High School.
The fight happened around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Since then, both have been charged criminally.
The juvenile in the white shirt faces a charge of second-degree battery.
The juvenile in the dark shirt is charged with disturbing the peace by fighting.
“One of the juveniles sustained a head injury by striking one of the benches when he was shoved. Acadiana Ambulance was called due to some signs of possible concussion”, Leger said.
According to officials, the injured teen’s tests were negative for traumatic injury; but he still faces charges in addition to punishment by the school district.
“Both students involved in that will be disciplined according to parish policy,” Joe Craig, CAO for Lafayette Parish School System said.
The two students involved in the fight weren’t the only people arrested.
Additionally, Megan Adkins, 32, is being charged with unlawful posting criminal activity for notoriety and publicity.
The video of the fight was recorded by her son. She got it from him and posted the video to Facebook, which landed her in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Louisiana law relates to the unlawful posting of criminal activity.
It states in part, “it shall be unlawful for a person who is either a principal or accessory to a crime to obtain an image of the commission of the crime using any camera, videotape, or any other image recording device and to transfer that image obtained during the commission of the crime by the use of a computer online service…”
