FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. – Recovering after being shot, Reeses is caught in the middle of a financial feud.
Doug Canady has been taking care of the dog.
His neighbor Meagan Harris created the GoFundMe account for Reeses and has been giving Doug the money.
“Why are you determining how the money is being spent because it was raised on Reeses and my behalf?,” asks Canady.
Harris says she has complete control of the finances and bank account.
“I hate it. [I] regret ever starting it,” she says.
Bank statements show there was roughly $21,371 in the bank two weeks ago.
As of today, there’s about $5,681 in the account.
Records show thousands have been spent at animal clinics and pet supply stores for food.
Harris says about $7,400 has been spent on medical expenses for Reeses and she’s made several donations to rescue animals.
She says about $5,000 is being spent to build a privacy fence in Canady’s backyard.
“I never asked for it,” says Canady.
Harris says Canady asked for travel reimbursement, something he denies.
“He had put mileage on his car to go to and from to see Reeses at the vet. He had gas,” says Harris.
Canady says he did ask for money for himself while he took care of the dog.
“I took off work to feed her through a feeding tube so I asked her [Harris], ‘hey does that not count for her care and recovery’,” says Canady.
Harris also purchased an outdoor home for Reeses.
The neighbors no longer get along, so it’s still in Harris’ backyard.
Harris did purchase an accounting service that was $550.
Canady says the company Harris hired is the same company his ex-wife works for.
Harris says Canady asked for reimbursement on a $112 home security camera which he says is being used to protect the dog.
The Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office says it appears most of this will have to be handled in civil court but officials say they are monitoring the issue.
