Roads washed away, homes under water and people calling for help.

“It’s devastating to see families, I mean their house is gone,” said Carl Dumler, Hoxie, Kansas resident. “I mean everything is gone.”

Hoxie Christian Church members Carl and Jodi Dumler said they have friends and family affected by the Nebraska floods.

“Her family members are dairy farmers, so it’s been hard seeing the farmers trying to keep the animals alive,” Carl said. “I talked to someone the other day, and they said they had 30 minutes to gather everything they could.”

So, now they’re calling on fellow Kansans for help.

“We need to do something,” he said. “These are our neighbors!”

The Hoxie Christian Church started taking donations Monday morning, and so far, they have a table full of items.

“We have a ton of cleaning supplies already, diapers, we have quite a bit of food,” Carl said. “We’ll take anything we can get.”

Church members will be personally be delivering all the donated items March 28 to Wood River, Nebraska.

“We are so thankful,” Wood River United Methodist Church Pastor Trudy Hanke said. “It gives us encouragement in situations where we’re so overwhelmed.”

Carl said it’s just an opportunity for them to step up and help their neighbors.
