COLUMBUS, Miss. (WJTV) – In the aftermath of a deadly tornado hitting the city of Columbus on Saturday, people and city officials are now left without power and buildings have been destroyed.

The First Pentecostal Church of Columbus had stood since 1979, but now it’s reduced to a pile of rubble.

All along the back roads, we’ve come across homes and apartments demolished by trees and flying debris.

Streets are cut off with trees blown over and blocking the way.

In another area, two cars were covered by bricks and cinder blocks blown off houses.

One person died while another four were severely injured. People in Columbus say it all came without warning.

Officials at the church also told us volunteers from outside their membership came to lend a hand. In return, they were baptized.
