MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — From the Viking Age to the Meme Age, ax throwing has resurfaced in 2019 not as a means of self-defense, but as a form of pure adrenaline-fueled entertainment.

That’s right, ax throwing is catching on in the Mid-South with multiple venues now popping up in the 901.

Autobahn Indoor Speedway, known primarily for its indoor high speed go kart racing, is now offering ax throwing lanes to its customers. Adventurous parties can come in any time and rent a lane or reserve a private lane for a larger party.

But for the more competitive people, Interim GM Patrick “Packy” Ferro says ax throwing fans can enter their WATL (World Ax Throwing League) tournaments with a chance to win cash prizes and potentially compete in a national tournament broadcast on ESPN.

“We’re seeing more and more people get really excited about it and really want to throw. From our perspective, it’s really starting to gain that popularity and get some momentum,” says Ferro.

For those concerned about safety, Ferro reassures that not only will you have your own ax coach in the lane during your visit, but he also maintains that Autobahn’s strict code of rules must be followed at all times. Additionally, all parties must sign a waiver before being able to enter a lane.

Younger people may participate, but minors between the ages of 13-18 must have an adult present with them at all times.
