Joseph Charles, is, by all accounts a phenom.

As a freshman he played in 20 games for Coach Christopher Kovatch and the Carencro Golden Bears, but, a broken leg, during a non-contact drill at practice, derailed his first year.

Joseph says, “I had to put in a lot of work, people helping me, and a lot of confidence.”

The Bears went on to win the 4A State Championship, all the while, Joseph watching from the bench.

“It was sad, but, seeing my team win, and win it for me, I was happy,” he recalls.

The happiness continued when he returned this season and took on a new role.

He says “I try to be a leader, and get my team back to the championship!”

Coach Kovatch says with his dedication to basketball, the Bears future looks bright, and it’s because of players like Joseph Charles.

“You can pick captains but can never pick leaders. we haven’t picked captains on our team yet, with this year. But, Joe is one of the guys, who every day he just comes with it, every single day!” the coach says.

Every day gets tougher for the Bears, as 14 of their opponents this season, played in the top 28 a year ago.
