ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Meet the athletes of the Louisiana Heat softball team.
They are about to make history as the first team in their division of USSSA/ASA from Louisiana to travel to New Mexico for a world series.
“I feel excited because this is going to be my first time going there,” said player Normal Levine.
“We’re all experiencing this for the first time,” said head coach Bryan Plowden, “It’s my first time going, the parents, the coaches.”
It wasn’t easy finding the fund to get everyone to New Mexico.
But, after several generous donations, the team encountered one special community member who made this trip possible.
“We managed to find somebody at a light on Pinhook,” explained Plowden, “Mrs. Melissa Valentario and her and her husband helped find people to donate and make donations and made it really possible.”
It didn’t stop there either.
The generous donor also provided the kids with a limo ride around town, sending them off in style.
The team has a lot going for them.
“We communicate with each other,” said Levine, “we support each other and we bring each other up.”
There’s no doubt they wouldn’t be heading on this adventure without the help of everyone around Acadiana.
From a stranger the team met while looking for donations on Pinhook, to all of the community members that supported these athletes along the way.
“It’s impossible without you,” said Plowden.
The team heads out on Thursday at 8p.m.
