Speaking of legendary prep coaches, STM Basketball Coach Danny Broussard, who won his 3rd State Championship this past season, continues to impact the youth of Acadiana with his Slam-N-Jam summer camps.
Coach Danny Broussard’s Camp: dubbed Slam-N-Jam, been helping Acadiana youngsters learn the game for the past 35 years.
One of the young campers, 13 year old Noah Trammel, who’s a 7 year veteran of the camp says you learn a lot when you at this camp.
“It’s fun! you learn the fundamentals, and how to shoot, and stuff, pluse you get better at basketball, and the snacks.”
Coach Broussard, who’s taken STM to 6 State Title game, and won three of them, attributes the camp’s success to his coach’s and the format they use.
“I’m really proud of this camp, George, cause we got a great coaching staff. I’d put them up against anyone. we tried to teach the fundamentals for the kids. i don’t think any kid comes to our camp feels like I’m lost, we try to teach them everything they will need to do. passing, dribbling, and i think we give something to the advance kids as well, with some competition game to make them have some fun while we are still coaching. “
This year, the camp hit a milestone, reaching over 500 campers! Broussard says this camp has come a long way since the start.
“I never forget my first year, we had 35 campers, we called it st. thomas more camp… nobody knew who Danny Broussard was at the time anyway. Spelled more wrong on the t-shirts and had to order 35 more, and we barely broke even. we’ve come a long way since 1984. “
