Louisiana State Police have arrested three horse jockeys for their roles in an alleged race fixing scheme.

Trooper Brooks David says 46-year-old Joseph Patin Jr. of Opelousas, 51-year-old Billy Patin of Opelousas, and 24-year-old LeSean Conyers of Lafayette, were arrested on charges of Willful Pulling of the Reins and Cheating and Swindling.

Joseph and Billy Patin were also arrested on warrants on the charge Unnatural Stimulation of Horses for using electronic shocking devices on the horses.

David says “evidence in two separate races on July 4, 2015 revealed that the jockeys possessed hand held shocking devices while competing in races at the Evangeline Downs Race Track and Casino.”

The arrests come after the Louisiana Racing Commission investigated a complaint allegeding that the three jockeys “engaged in questionable riding tactics that affected the outcome of the race,” on June 19, 2015, at the Evangeline Downs Race Track and Casino.
