NEW ORLEANS (The Daily Advertiser) – UL’s bid to make it one for the thumb met a roadblock Saturday night at the Superdome.
Southern Mississippi beat the Ragin’ Cajuns 28-21 Saturday night in a late-starting 2016 New Orleans Bowl, denying coach Mark Hudspeth’s club a chance to win the postseason game for a fifth time.
UL won the New Orleans Bowl for four straight years from 2011-14, but with Nick Mullens and Allenzae Staggers getting it done through the air and Ito Smith on the ground the Cajuns couldn’t pull it off again in front of an announced of 35,061 – the fourth-largest crowd in game history.
The Cajuns ended their season at 6-7, marking their second straight year with a losing record, while the Golden Eagles finish with a winning mark at 7-6.
