Wife of Jrue Holiday gives birth ahead of brain surgery

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WWL-TV) – During New Orleans Pelicans media day on Friday, teammates of Jrue Holiday revealed Holiday’s wife Lauren, a former Ben Davis and U.S. women’s national soccer team star, gave birth to a healthy baby girl in North Carolina this week.

It was revealed earlier this month that Lauren Holiday would need brain surgery to remove a benign tumor near her orbital socket. But surgery had to wait until after the birth of the couple’s first child.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Holiday (formerly Cheney), will have surgery six weeks after giving birth. Jrue  Holiday, New Orleans’ second-leading scorer, will miss the start of the season to tend to his family.

Lauren, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, lives in New Orleans but often returns  to Indianapolis, hosting youth soccer clinics. She drove the pace car for the 2015 Brickyard 400 after helping the U.S. win the Women’s World Cup, scoring a goal in the final.

According to the Times-Picayune, the Holidays will spend the next few months in North Carolina, closer to Lauren’s doctors at Duke University.
