LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- From backpacks to shoes and clothes, back to school shopping is in full force.

Acadiana Mall mall marketing director Jamie Stelly says mall traffic has picked considerably.
 
“Some people come in early and some wait until the last minute,” says Stelly.
 
Watch Me Grow boutique is store that specializes in kids’ clothes. They said despite some people struggling with finances, their kids come first.

“They say kids are expensive, but they ultimately spend,”said store manager Taylor Castille.

When it comes to back to school spending nationwide, the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights and Analytics conducted a recent survey that forecasted families with children in elementary through high school spend an average of $649.79 per child for a total of $55.3 billion, which is an all-time high.

“Good to see where we are as market. Stats show people are shopping more at stores than online,” says Stelly.

News 10 spoke with parents who where back-to-school shopping at the Acadiana Mall.
“Uniforms run out fast,” said Jakari Davis. “You’ve got to catch the size that you want quick.”
 

Tracy Hall said as a parent budget does not matter when its comes shopping for new school items.

“Kids today want what they want. We try to accommodate them,” said Hall.
