HACKBERRY, La. (KLFY)- Forensic reconstruction of the severed head found on March 1 off La. 27 was released by authorities today.
The Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with the Cameron Parish Coroner’s Office and  with the assistance of the Calcasieu Parish Corner’s Office will be requesting further DNA testing of the victim for identification purposes by a genealogical lab.
The woman’s head was found in a bag by a road crew. Initially, the human remains appeared to have been there for “a few months,” Cameron Parish Ron Johnson said.
The discovery was made near mile marker 59.7, not far from the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. Deputies investigated the surrounding marsh and canal, but found no other traces of evidence, Johnson said.
