Just hand over, receive and tap.

RFID wristbands are the new way to pay this year at Festival International.

The wristbands replacing the beverage tickets of years past.

“On the back end it was very tough to coordinate keeping the booth stocked with tickets,” says FIL Executive Director Scott Feehan.

Feehan says the first move was set in motion four years ago.

The research included visits from the company who made the technology, Intellitix, and the festival’s own representatives seeing it in action at other festivals.

“We’re not like most festivals. We don’t have…it’s tough to find the border, it’s not a controlled environment where a lot of festivals are set up,” says Feehan.

Feehan says there are two ways to pay.

“You can hand a $20 bill over but instead of getting a bunch of paper, you’re going to get a wristband and they’ll put $20 dollars onto it and that’s it,” says Feehan.

Or you can step it up a notch.

“You can register it in the app. Just go into our mobile app and put your wristband in and you have your own digital wallet and you can control it from there,” says Feehan.

You can get a refund for the money you do not use on the wristband whether it be by cash or card as well.
