There’s new leadership within the Acadia Parish School System.

Scott Richard is the new Superintendent of Schools.

Superintendent Scott Richard says, “The biggest concern for parents and the community and our employees and students’ overall well-being is for students to arrive in a safe school environment and for the community to feel like their kids are safe.”

In a recent USA Today article, the Secret Service urges U.S. schools to establish teams that can assess threats and prevent school shootings.

“We want to make sure we follow the best practice and communicate not only to our employees and our students, but the community of Acadia Parish. If you see something, say something that you think is threatening to the school environment,” adds Superintendent Richard.

The focus from the instructional side is to make sure there is high-quality curriculum in every classroom and that teachers are supported as much as possible.

“Our teachers need to be completely supported from every aspect,” explains Superintendent Richard. “They need to know that the District Office is here to help and that’s also a priority as we begin the school year.”

Superintendent Richard adds awareness is a big piece of assuring school safety.

“And at the end of the day, if we do all the little things right, the big things usually fall in place and we’re looking forward to a fantastic start of the school year,” says Superintendent Richard.

Superintendent Richard says he’s humbled to be given this role and is making sure all operational aspects are ready for the start of school on August 8.
