  • Brandon Perkins has been arrested and charged with the 2nd degree murder of Delanzo Veal in Beaver over the weekend. The shooting took place during a birthday party.
  • No charges or citations have been issued after a 2-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in Port Barre on Sunday. The boy’s dad stepped outside the vehicle to smoke a cigarette.
  • State Senator Gerald Boudreaux says thanks to a sales tax renewal nursing homes will be able to operate as normal, higher education will be funded, that includes TOPS and UHC has been saved.
  • Also in the final hours of the special session, lawmakers shuffled $4 million more to the Office of Juvenile Justice’s budget. More teenage offenders will be moved from the adult to juvenile prosecution system.
  • Acadiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster is looking for organizations, agencies, and companies to join in their efforts of helping people during times of need.
  • The City of St. Martinville’s first female mayor will take office this weekend. Mayor-Elect Melinda Mitchell will be sworn in Saturday at Noon, along with new city council members. Following that ceremony will be an inaugural community day from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani pledged his full support on Monday for the Congressional Campaign of Josh Guillory at the Petroleum Club. On Sunday, President Donald Trump endorsed the incumbent, Representative Clay Higgins, on Twitter for the November Primary. Mimi Methvin is the Democratic Candidate also running to unseat Higgins.
  • It will be the end of an era this week as hundreds of Toys R Us stores across the country – including the one here in the Hub City – close their doors forever.
  • A very warm and humid morning with temps in the 70’s for most of Acadiana. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the lower 90s along with isolated storms during the afternoon.  The heat index will be around 100-105°.
