• Lafayette Police will conduct an OWI checkpoint tonight between 9 p-m and 3 a-m somewhere within the incorporated areas of the hub city.
  •  Kaplan High School has become the pilot for a new security system in Vermilion Parish schools. The superintendent says he’s hopeful all other schools in the parish will have the same technology in the future.
  • Governor John Bel Edwards will be back in Lafayette this afternoon for Waitr day. The food delivery company is celebrating its new downtown location.
  • Authorities in St. Landry Parish are searching for the man responsible for brutally attacking an elderly man. The suspect got back into an older white Toyota or Honda, and drove west on highway 167.

  • Congress passed a bill to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.  The White House says President Trump will sign it into law… and then declare a national emergency at the southern U.S. border to pay for the wall.
  •  Valentine’s Day brings a surge of activity on dating websites. Scammers are using affection to manipulate their victims out of money. Online romance scams often escalate as scammers turn their victims into unwitting accomplices to fraud known as “money mules.”
  • Carlos and Shavis Toby appeared in court Thursday. The brothers were charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a local boxer, Brandon Broussard. Judge Michot did not get a chance to hear pleas from the Toby’s. We called the clerk of court for the new court date but because of a water leak at the courthouse, their office closed early but we will follow later this morning.
