The Town of Basile just got audited by the state, and the findings were not good.

The state audited the Town of Basile last year. It found that the town is over $100,000 in debt.

Last week, the Town of Basile’s officials started discussing how they will fix the problem.

In a Facebook post, Bron Dubroc, Basile Town Councilman for District 2, says “As many of you are aware, the Town of Basile has been in financial trouble for quite some time now.”

He goes on to say, “We must make changes to the way the town is conducting business! We have to find ways to cut spendings and find new means of revenue for the community.”

According to Dubroc, the state’s findings says, “Our projections indicate that the town will run out of cash this month, if all bills are paid by the town as they become due.

The state audit estimates the town needs more than $15,000 to balance the budget.

According to state auditors, Basile leaders say the plan to address the problems by increasing gas rates, cutting expenses, collecting past due fines with the help of a third-party company, and refinancing long-term debt.
