The trial of Kevin Daigle, the man accused of first-degree murder of State Trooper Steven Vincent, has been moved to Lafayette.
Judge Clayton Davis has granted a full change of venue for the trial, according to media reports.
The jury will also be picked in Lafayette.
If Daigle is found guilty of first-degree murder he could be facing the death penalty in which case a penalty phase of the trial will also be required. The penalty phase would also be held in Lafayette.
An earlier change of venue would have allowed the jury to be picked in Bossier Parish and brought back to Calcasieu for the trial.
Trooper Vincent was shot in the head during a traffic stop in Bell City in August, 2015.
Vincent was a 13-year veteran of the state police force, and worked at Troop D in Lake Charles.
The suspect, Kevin Daigle, 54 at the time, was arrested.
Authorities said Vincent was responding to a call of a vehicle driving erratically around 2:45 p.m. Sunday. When he arrived, a Dodge pickup truck driven by Daigle was in a ditch at the corner of La. 14 and Fruge Road.
