UPDATE: The man who climbed a tree in Opelousas has now climbed down according to  Sheriff Bobby Guidorz who also confirmed with News 10 that the individual was “intoxicated on something.” 

EMT medics are transporting the male to a local hospital., Guidroz said.  

He will be taken into custody following his release, Guidroz said.  

ORIGINAL: Police in Opelousas are negotiating with a man who climbed a tree and is refusing to come down.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Fire Department and EMT officials are on scene in the 500 block of Country Ridge Road negotiating with the individual who climbed the tree around 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

Circumstances surrounding the incident have not been confirmed by authorities.  

Several eyewitnesses tell KLFY that family members are also on scene assisting authorities with the rescue. 

KLFY is on scene.  We have been told that all streets surrounding the rescue have been blocked by authorities out of precaution.
