How young is too young to give your kids the hard truth about alcohol? Child experts say parents and doctors need to start the conversation with kids about the dangers of alcohol before their 10th birthday. The American Academy of Pediatrics says parents and pediatricians should start having the conversation about drinking with children by the age of 9 due to the fact that children start thinking positively about alcohol by age 9. Experts say it’s the age when children start exploring. Dr. Harris Stratyner is the Vice President of the largest substance abuse program in the country and he says the more that young people are exposed to alcohol advertising and marketing, the more likely they are to drink. Studies have found that 21% of young people have tried more than a sip of alcohol by the time they’re 13.

What do you think is the right age to have the conversation about drinking and how?
