Panera Bread Co. isn’t the only national chain set on opening two locations in Lafayette — one near the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus and another in the new Ambassador Town Center anchored by Costco.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers will be opening two Lafayette locations in less than a year’s time as well.

The first one is set to open by the end of the year at the corner of Congress Street and Bertrand Drive in the shopping center anchored by Rouses.
The second one is set to open in early 2016 in the Ambassador Town Center on Kaliste Saloom Road.
Construction should begin on the first location by mid-to-late summer and for the second location by late summer, according to Nick Esterline, the franchise owner.
As the name implies, Freddy’s is known for its steakburgers and frozen custard.
The restaurant’s website describes a steakburger as cooked-to-order and made from premium, lean beef. It says that frozen custard is smoother and richer than ice cream because of a churning process that produces less ice crystals and air.
The restaurant also offers Vienna beef hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, shoestring fries and more.
Founded in 2002, Freddy’s is a fast-casual restaurant with a late 1940s to early 1950s post-war diner theme. There are currently 156 locations across 23 states, and 20 additional locations are on track to open by the end of the year.
There are currently no Freddy’s locations in Louisiana.
