KAPLAN, La. (KLFY) – The city of Kaplan will restore gas service to homes and businesses beginning on Thursday.

The city has been without gas service since Sunday.

Mayor Kirk Champagne said service to hospitals, nursing homes, and schools will be restored first before private homes.

Someone must be at home when workers arrive to turn the gas on and relight pilot lights.

The mayor urges residents to be patient as the process could take several days but said the city is prepared to work through Labor Day to restore gas service.

He also asks residents to wait on city workers and do NOT attempt to restore service or light pilot lights by themselves.
