U.S. (KXAN) — New numbers have been released from the FBI showing crime rates dropping across the nation last year.

Despite the numerous violent headline, murder rates were at an all time low since 2009. Other violent crimes declined as well, including robbery and arson.

However, aggravated assaults and rapes increased in 2014. They believe the broader definition of those crimes could be a factor in the increase.

The missing statistic from the report has already drawn negative attention. Numbers showing the tension between law enforcement and minority communities after widely publicized shootings of civilians were excluded from the FBI’s findings.

James Comey, FBI Director, said in a memo that the agency is now working to collect more data on the shootings of civilians by police in order to address concerns about appropriate use of force.
