SLIDELL, La. (WWLTV) – An arrest has been made in the fatal crash on I-10 near the Louisiana/Mississippi line Wednesday morning, according to State Police.

Daniel Alex Coy, 25, of Gulfport has been booked with negligent homicide, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and felony hit and run.

State Police say a dark blue Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by Coy tried to pass two 18-wheel trucks that were traveling, nearly side-by-side westbound on I-10 by driving on the shoulder of the road.

The vehicle tried to get in front of the big trucks and struck one of them, which set off a chain reaction as one of the 18-wheel trucks went into the other, pushing it over the guard rail and into the water.

The driver of the truck that went into the water was killed. Traffic was shut down for hours in both directions.

“The poor decisions made by a reckless driver have forever changed the lives of the Clark family,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “Whereas the loss of life will never be forgotten, we are grateful to have brought Mr. Coy to justice for his actions.”

The investigation is on-going and any additional charges will be referred to the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office.
