Twenty volunteers gathered along the N.W. Evangeline Thruway Saturday to edge sidewalks and clean the right-of-way areas along three blocks of the Lafayette thoroughfare.

The event was coordinated by the litter/beautification group “Keep Lafayette Beautiful.”  The organization consists of seven volunteer board members and is an affiliate of the national organization “Keep America Beautiful.”

Several organizations comprised the team of volunteers that performed the weekend clean-up.  UL fraternity Sigma Chi Lambda Psi and the organization “Rebuilding Together” organized members among their ranks to staff the event.

B&A All Around, a Lafayette-based all-purpose contractor, sent two workers to assist with edging along the sidewalks on the Thruway.

Keep Lafayette Beautiful is sponsored by Lafayette Consolidated Government and is an active participant in LCG’s “Project Front Yard,” a recent beautification initiative in Lafayette Parish and Acadiana,

The event netted 6,500 pounds (3.25 tons) of grass, dirt and debris that was cleaned from the right-of-way.
