After pushing the state for years to repair one of the most unique and iconic symbols in Breaux Bridge, the city will finally get its wish.

The state has agreed to fund renovations for the bridge that leads to the historic downtown area. The bridge has been corroding for a while and is in desperate need of attention.

Before the state announced it would foot the bill, residents raised about $10,000 dollars to save the bridge. The money raised will go toward pressure washing and upkeep. The state will spend 1.2 million dollars to remove lead from the superstructure and give it a fresh paint job.

The project won’t begin until 2017.
