On Tuesday, July 21, Keith Overton Leleux entered a guilty plea to First Degree Murder in the killing of Mrs. Judy Landry on July 1, 2008. Leleux was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of parole by the Honorable Keith Comeaux.

A grand jury previously returned a true bill of indictment in April, 2015, formally charging Keith Leleux with First Degree Murder. This homicide was committed on July 1, 2008, the same day that Sheriff Louis Ackal was being sworn in for his first term as Iberia Parish Sheriff.

Leleux, in entering his guilty plea, admitted under oath that he went to the residence of Judy Landry to get money to buy drugs. He indicated that he wore gloves and carried tie straps into the residence with him in case he needed to use force or violence in acquiring the money. During the confrontation with Mrs. Landry, she picked up the phone to call police, and Leleux placed her in a choke hold from behind until she passed out. While she was on the floor, Leleux admitted that he applied the tie straps around her neck and cinched them tight. Mrs. Landry died from asphyxiation as a result. Leleux remained in the house until he confirmed she was dead, and at that point he left the scene.
