Louisiana is getting $1 million in federal grant money to train residents needed as employees by specific industries.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1K01HVi) the federal money targets the Alexandria, Shreveport and Monroe areas and will be administered by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
Much of it is earmarked for apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training, on-the-job training and other classroom training for jobs in the technical-services, manufacturing, health care and professional employment sectors.
People targeted include those unemployed for more than 27 weeks, those whose unemployment insurance is about to expire, veterans and foreign-trained workers facing barriers to employment.
