The following is a news release from the Louisiana State Police:

Acadia Parish – Shortly before 11:30 pm on Tuesday June 14, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 91 north of LA 368 in Acadia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 35 year-old Shane Porche of Mamou, LA.

The initial crash investigation led Troopers to determine Porche was driving a 2003 Dodge car north on LA 91. For reasons still under investigation, Porche failed to negotiate a curve and ran off of the left side of the roadway. Porche’s vehicle struck a culvert and overturned. Porche was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. As part of the on-going crash investigation, toxicology samples were obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

While not every crash is survivable, Troopers continue to stress the importance of seat belt use. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2014 alone, seat belts saved over 12,000 people. Please take a moment and share with your loved ones the importance of wearing a seat belt every trip, every time.
