A man accused in the slaying of Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley has entered a not guilty plea to a charge of first-degree murder.

The Times reports 27-year-old Grover Cannon entered the plea Monday in state court. His next hearing date is December 21st.

The state indicated it will seek the death penalty in its case against Cannon.

LaValley was responding to a family dispute call August 5th when the 29-year-old was gunned down. He was shot six times.

Cannon was captured the next day after a manhunt.
