A New Orleans man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for possessing counterfeit credit cards.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley, in a news release Thursday, said 24-year-old Izell Mayes was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi on one count of possession of 15 or more counterfeit or unauthorized access devices. He also was ordered to pay $1,591 in restitution.
At his plea hearing in March, Mayes said he was riding in a car that was stopped for speeding on Feb. 9, 2014, in Vinton. During a search of the vehicle, 50 fake credit cards in Mayes’ name were found as were another 40 in another person’s name.
Mayes later confessed to picking up the cards in Houston, where he used them in department stores earlier that day.
