The McNeese State University men’s rodeo team took first place while the women’s rodeo team took second place at the Texas A&M University at Kingsville rodeo competition over the weekend.
Bobby Abernathy, Athens, Ala., won the men’s all-around championship, while Jacquelyn Gregory, Lamar, Mo., finished as reserve champion in the women’s all-around category.
Abernathy won the steer wrestling competition, placed 7th in tie down roping and he and his partner Chris Rinn, from Langtuth, Me, in Canada, placed third in team roping.
Brant Brummett, Reeds, Mo., won the saddle bronc riding competition, while Jesse Anderson, Unionville, Mo., placed fourth in bareback riding.
In goat tying, Lauren Hansen, Sulphur, finished in first place, Kirsten Smith, St. Francisville, finished in second place, Kyla Foster, Sweetlake, finished in fourth place, Jessica Bates, Norco, Calif., finished in ninth place and Gregory finished in 10th place.
Gregory also finished in eighth place in breakaway roping.
