A veteran New Orleans police officer who was suspended in January after a domestic abuse arrest has been suspended a second time following another arrest on a domestic abuse charge.
New Orleans police tell local media that 34-year-old Officer James Cunningham was involved with an incident early Monday in which a woman says he grabbed her, threatened her and refused to allow her to leave a home.
Police say the department’s Public Integrity Bureau arrested Cunningham later that morning on charges of domestic abuse battery and false imprisonment. He has since been placed him on emergency suspension without pay.
Earlier this year, Cunningham was initially suspended and later put on administrative reassignment after being arrested in January on domestic abuse battery and home invasion charges. It is unclear if Cunningham has an attorney.(Copyright 2015 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
