OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)— One Opelousas woman was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile after allegedly letting a 14-year-old drive her car which was used in a burglary, according to authorities.

Officials with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said Smith’s vehicle was used during the burglary of a Dollar General on August 23, but detectives believe Smith had no knowledge of the burglary.

According to a news release, the burglary occurred at the Dollar General on Hwy 182 North in Opelousas on August 23.

Major Eddie Thibodeaux said suspects smashed the window of the front door and entered the store stealing various items. As deputies investigated the crime they said they learned Smith allowed a 14-year-old female suspect to drive her vehicle knowing she was not licensed.

Deputies arrested Mildred Smith, 59, of Opelousas, she was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Her bond was set at $2,500.
