A 55-year-old Lafayette woman is now dead after a crash that shut down part of I-10 for over two hours this morning.
It happened around 5:25 a.m. on eastbound I-10, near the Ambassador Caffery Parkway exit.
Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton says Mary Ann McCrery walked into the roadway and was hit by a 2007 Honda CRV.
First responders pronounced McCrery dead at the scene. Investigators do not know why she was walking in the roadway at the time of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and police are not pressing any charges against them.
State Police closed the interstate at Ambassador Caffery Parkway around 6 a.m. and reopened the roadway around 8:30 a.m.
