The public hearing on the major modification for the St. Landry Parish sanitary landfill will be Tuesday at 6 p.m., at the Opelousas Civic Center’s main auditorium located at 1638 Creswell Lane Ext.

In the permit, the district proposed to expand its service area to include Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette and St. Martin parishes — and to increase the landfill’s capacity to 150,000 tons of garbage a year.

The hearing gives people an opportunity to present statements views and opinions on the St. Landry Solid Waste Disposal District’s proposed permit modification. Written statements and other documents, including charts, data and tabulations may be filed.

Comments and requests for public hearings must be received by Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m. Requests for a public hearing or notification of the final decision can be submitted by personal delivery to the drop box at 602 N. 5th St. in Baton Rouge, U.S. mail or fax.
