The Rapides Parish School District is looking at changing its student grooming policy after an elementary student was suspended because he has long hair.
The Town Talk reports (http://townta.lk/1KCJWNw ) 11-year-old Ashton Bodiford missed most of the spring semester until he cut his hair, which falls to the middle of his back. Current board policy requires male students have hair no longer than chin length in the back or 3 inches on top.
Complaints from students and parents are prompting the school board to consider a new policy that says, among other things, that hair “must be groomed in such a manner that it will not draw undue attention”
The policy says eExtensions, braids and cornrows would be allowed, but not dreadlocks and hair colors that are not “naturally occurring.”
