UPDATE 5:15 p.m. – A suspect is in custody after killing a McHenry County Deputy who was serving a warrant for his arrest Thursday morning.
Rockford Police reponded to the Extended Stay America hotel at 747 N. Bell School Road around 9:15 a.m for a call to assist agents with the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force who were serving a warrant.
The officer shot was McHenry County Deputy working with U.S. Marshals, according to the Illinois State Police. Authorities say he is in surgery now and “fighting for his life.”
Authorities named 39-year-old Floyd E. Brown as a suspect.
Brown was the suspect in a series of burglaries in Bloomington in December 2018. When police pursued him, he reportedly drove away through back yards, eventually causing a multi-car crash at G.E. Road and Veterans Parkway. He then reportedly ran off.
Rockford Police were executing a warrant at the Extended Stay America Hotel Thursday, when Brown reportedly shot a US Marshal before leaving the scene.
A female aquaintance of the suspect was found to be in the hotel room, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Rockford Police say the woman’s injury did not appear to come from a weapon fired by police. She is said to have suffered a non-life threatening injury.
While driving south on Interstate 55 near Lincoln, the multiple agencies report Logan County deputies surrounded Brown, who crashed his vehicle.
Brown was taken into custody by the Illinois State Police around 5 p.m.
