House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, of Louisiana, has agreed to a meeting with two civil rights leaders.

The leaders want to ask him for help advancing the renewal of the voting rights act. Their request came after news surfaced that Scalise addressed members of a white supremacy group back in 2002. Scalise will meet with Marc Morial, President and CEO of the national urban league and former mayor of New Orleans, and Wade Henderson, President and CEO of the leadership conference on civil and human rights.

The meeting is scheduled for next month.

In a letter to Scalise, Henderson and Morial said more explanations are needed from Scalise on his 2002 remarks. After the news surfaced, Scalise admitted that it was a mistake to address members of the KKK.
